I am constantly amazed by the things I take for granted. Not because I don’t appreciate them, but because their presence has been so integral to my life that I can’t imagine it any other way. We took these photos at St. Boniface Cathedral – what remains of it, anyway. A fire destroyed most of the original cathedral in the sixties, leaving only the facade. It remains one of the most beautiful and evocative buildings I have ever seen, even in ruins. And I should have thought of it first when choosing photoshoot locations in Winnipeg.
But to be honest, it didn’t really occur to me. I grew up visiting the cathedral on school field trips. Louis Riel, a man I consider a national hero (although popular opinions are more mixed), is buried in the cemetery on the cathedral grounds. The St. Boniface Museum is just next door. And College Universitaire de Saint-Boniface, where I studied for the first two years of my undergraduate degree, is just down the street. And that’s just it. It didn’t occur to me simply because it has always been there, a fixture in so many of my memories, and I can’t imagine it any other way.
There was a distinct chill in the air, the morning we took these photos. I quickly regretted wearing sandals instead of ankle boots, and a blouse instead of a sweater. But Winnipeg weather is unpredictable. Summer heat came back again this week, only to disappear almost as quickly as it arrived. In the span of a few short days, I have taken one last swim in our outdoor pool and unboxed my sweater collection. I’m not sure if there will be many opportunities for transitional dressing this season, but I suppose the warm weather could come back again. What I do know is that as much as I hate the cold that comes with the snow, I can’t wait to see all the beautiful places I am rediscovering covered in snow – especially the cathedral.
What a beautiful place – there are a few places like that in Edmonton, places that I sort of forget are even there but that are either really beautiful or full of historical significance. I suppose sometimes it pays off to explore in your own backyard.

It happens, we are so use to our surroundings that we don’t stop to appreciate them. It happens a lot where I live, specially the Panama Canal. Flocks of tourists go there and I never do.
Love the simplicity of this look!

I can’t imagine a more beautiful location for a photoshoot, and I suppose you are right, when it comes to things that have always been, it’s hard to appreciate what it might be without. Glad you managed to get one more summery shoot in, but then you really do never know when the summer might pop back again!
Chic on the Cheap
Sippin’ wine and playing a little catch up tonight. AND obsessed, with this outfit. It screams “me” to me! I love white, light blue and tan together… in fact I just might have to wear a replica of this outfit tomorrow. Plus this spot is absolutely stunning!! Hope your week is off to a smashing start Cee! xo

I think about that from time to time – how I take for granted things that are just always “there,” but that I really shouldn’t, because I’m missing out. This is such a beautiful location, and I’m glad you’ve rediscovered it. And I just love your hair like this!
Oh Cee! I just adore this outfit! So chic. That top! It is gorgeous. Everything pairs so well with your outfit. Love those shoes and handbag.
