I love a good pair of heels. That much is common knowledge – in fact, even if you’ve been reading for years, I recognise that it’s possible you’re under the impression that I never wear flat shoes. That simply isn’t true, of course; I’ve never owned a car, which means I walk absolutely everywhere. Admittedly, I still do wear heels more often than not, but sometimes I need to get where I’m going in a hurry and, more often, my feet hurt because I spend hours every week with my sneakers on, running like I’m trying to get away from something. Flats are essential. But not just any flats; I’ve tried every brand you can imagine over the years, especially during my time at university, when ballet flats were the shoe of the moment. But from soles so thin I could feel the ground under my feet to fabrics that refused to be broken in, I never found a pair that was as comfortable as magazines told me ballet flats were supposed to be. That is, until the day I showed up at the department store where I worked just in time for my shift, only to realize I had left my sensible black work shoes at home. A mad dash to the shoe department ensued; I grabbed the first black flats I saw in my size and ran back to work. Those flats turned out to be from ECCO, and they were so much more comfortable than the shoes I had been wearing to work that I threw my old pair out as soon as I got home. I want to say I’ve never looked back, but I’ve tried other brands over the years. Unfortunately, none have come close to measuring up. I was thrilled when a new pair of flats from the brand arrived in my mailbox just before Christmas; the black velvet fabric and tapered cut make them elegant enough to pass the, “What would Audrey Hepburn wear?” test, but comfort wasn’t sacrificed in order for these shoes to have style. I have walked all over the city in them, including all the way to my favourite new coffee shop, Dalina – and yes, it is my favourite because it’s all white, I can’t help it. In all that time, I haven’t felt the slightest pinch or rub; like the best shoes, they were ready for me to wear without pain from the minute I put them on, no breaking in required. We’ve already been on some pretty great adventures together, my ECCO flats and me, but I can’t wait to walk them all over Europe with me in just a few months…!

I LOVE heels and wish that flats fit me better! I am constantly having to switch out shoes because of painful heels but then I need the arch support! (I feel 90 years old saying all of that)

I feel like cute shoes that are comfortable from the moment you put them on don’t exist. I’ve tried so many shoes, both shoes that I’ve been so put out by I never purchased along with the ones that seemed good at first and ultimately turned out to be not so great. I generally fear having to walk great distances because there is not a single shoe in my entire closet that I’d want to have on, save for maybe a pair of sneakers I only ever wear on the rare occasion I go to an exercise class which requires them.

Perhaps I need to make a point of trying on a pair of Ecco shoes, maybe I can have that same moment of jubilation as you did the first time you wore them.

I’ll have to keep ECCO in mind the next time I need comfy ballet flats. The last time I purchased this wardrobe staple, J. Crew was still making the Cece flat in Italy and it was the perfect shoe. I’ve gotten so used to sneakers these days that when I slip on my ballet flats they pinch a bit though.

I’d say I where flats almost exclusively but I’ve never tried ECCO. I’ll have to keep your endorsement of them at the front of my mind the next time I’m shopping for a pair.

Cee, I love that they are comfy. I wear ballet flats all the time and know what you mean by their sometimes lack of comfort. I will definitely keep ECCO in mind.

  10. Oh yay, you’re wearing your BR cardigan. Love, love it on you!! And so happy you bought it… it’s so cozy & perfect for this time of year, isn’t it?! <3 And couldn't agree more, flats are a must! Like you, I walk everywhere and if I do wear heals?… They're usually tucked in my bag so I can quickly swap them out prior to arriving at my destination!

Also, I noticed my comment never took on your "CTV Morning Style" post! Just wanted to say I LOVED seeing you, and you looked absolutely stunning… that outfit screamed Cee! Congrats on such a fun feature!! xo

Very cute flats, while I have not tried Ecco, I recently came across a ballet flat brand that are super comfortable: French Soles..
