It’s always shoes, with me. On my recent trip to Vancouver, I decided to pop into the Dior store in my hotel – just to take a look. Famous last words. My intention was, indeed, just to take a look. I attended a party at the boutique, to celebrate its opening, back in 2015, but hadn’t been inside since that night. Which is to say that in theory, my intentions were good.

…but I found myself in the second floor shoe section almost immediately, and after that, things escalated quickly.

Dior J’Adior Pumps

I love the history of Maison Dior, but the current reality of it the designs they produce doesn’t align too closely with my personal taste. This is the best sentence I can come up with to explain that while the J’Adior pumps, a consummate classic from the brand that launched in 2017, have been on my radar since the debuted, they also haven’t been. There are just so many Chanel shoes to collect, you see – and when it comes to a choice, I thought, I would choose Chanel every time. That’s why I was in Vancouver in the first place; for a Chanel shopping trip with my bestie, Veronika.

But then I spotted a particular variation of the J’Adior pumps with a Paris print in the Dior boutique. It felt like kismet. I had to try them on, at least.

And once they were on, I quickly understood what all the fuss is, and has been, about since 2017. The J’Adior pumps are beautiful. They’re also comfortable, the low heel sturdy and easy to walk in. They elevated the leggings that I should not admit that I was wearing at the time to previously unreached heights – frankly, no pair of leggings has any right to look as good as mine suddenly did when I put these shoes on. And they looked even better the following day, when I tried them on with an adult outfit meant to be worn in public. While I gently tiptoed around in them, I found myself wondering how it had taken me so long to try them on… but feeling simultaneously glad I’d waited, because once they were on my feet, I knew I needed to own them.

Less than twenty-four hours later, I did.
