Colours are not my my thing. At this point, I don’t need to say that; the photographic evidence speaks for itself. But it seems that once every summer, I’m possessed my the desire to add a bit of colour to my wardrobe – specifically blue.
Last summer, it was an improbable floral dress, purchased impulsively. I loved the cut more than anything, and wound up buying a second, more neutral toned version later in the season. This year, it’s a blue button down shirt, rescued from the back of my closet, where it’s been languishing since shortly after I bought it in 2017.
Summer is short. And life is, too. So every once in a while, it’s fun to follow those impulses. I’ve actually worn this blue shirt about half a dozen times this season, but this is the first (and likely only) time it’s been captured for anything other than an Instagram story. I chose this outfit over the others because it’s the opposite of my summer blue from last season – perfectly classic and simple. So classic, in fact, that the blue hue could almost (but not quite) be considered a neutral.
It’s likely that apart from denim, the colour blue won’t make an appearance here until next summer. I can’t see how I’ll transition this shirt into my fall wardrobe – but then again, I never really plan to put it on, it just winds up part of my outfits time and again, because it’s so versatile. So maybe I’ll be back here in a few months talking about autumn blue. But for now, I’m just enjoying the summer version, like the season, while it lasts.
I love this splash of blue – totally understand why a splash of colour only appears very sporadically but I love to see it nonetheless!

LOVE your blue shirt & love it paired with the shorts. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect pair – but giving up since we’re starting to have a major cool down here in BC. Also, yes, love seeing you break out of your comfort zone and try new things! Hoping that will be me this fall, currently eyeing a pair of flatform sneakers. We’ll see! I always have lofty fashion goals for approaching seasons but don’t always take the plunge. LOL!! 😉
