Is it just me, or do five-day work weeks seem excessively long? I’m being glib, but also slightly serious. Much like I am only at my best for six hours of the eight hour work day, I’m really only productive from Monday to Thursday… and usually by Thursday afternoon, a week of stress has drained my motivation and enthusiasm completely. Suffice it to say that I am really looking forward to this weekend. Not that we have any special plans – we don’t. But sometimes, that’s almost better.

A special weekend is pretty nice, too, though. Two weeks ago, we woke up at the JW Marriott for our last day in Vancouver after the most blissful sleep. It was Sunday morning, and I wanted it to last forever. Honestly, between the beds and the pillows (which were the perfect mix of firm and yielding,) I never wanted to leave. Normally, I am up with the sun. But that morning, we lingered in the room over my favourite, TWG Tea, and looked out the window at the seawall where we used to run so often. We thought of actually running, but it was a truly lazy Sunday, so we stayed cosy inside, instead.

We did drag ourselves out of bed eventually – for just long enough to take these photos. And, naturally, once I was dressed, I realised I was starving, so we set off to forage for breakfast in nearby Chinatown. It was the kind of Sunday I wish could happen every week, but that is all the more satisfying simply because it doesn’t.

The truth is, I know I won’t spend this weekend in my pyjamas in front of Netflix, but right now, the idea is extremely tempting. Whatever your plans are, I hope you have a wonderful (and restful!) two days off. You’ve earned it.

  2. A lazy weekend is sounding SO good. I’m taking a lazy Friday today instead because I’ll be working most of the weekend – photography clients. As for your desired work schedule? Right there with you. 6 hours seems far more civilized as does working Monday – Thursday. You have my vote!! 😉 And your weekend & spontaneous tromp to Chinatown sound fab. Really need to do a staycation in the city at some point. It’s my fave!! xo

Giving yourself permission to do nothing is a wonderful thing. It’s one thing to do nothing and feel guilty about it, but to be able to relish it, you are right to say it would be wonderful every Sunday, but then it might not feel quite as good.

I’m deliriously excited that I have no plans at all this weekend and get to wear sweat pants the whole time. What has my life come to??!!

  5. A lot of companies are switching to 4 day 10 hour work weeks here in the States. I live for my weekends! Lovely pictures of you Cee. I love that sweater. The way it crosses in the back is so beautiful.
