The Fairytale of Vincennes

Paris demands beautiful dresses. As we were packing all of our possessions for a cross-country move, and I was purging all of my unworn clothes from my closet, the last thing I should have been doing was bringing new dresses into my life, but that’s exactly what happened. Two weeks before we left for Paris, I placed an order with ASOS and, on our last Saturday morning in Vancouver, a magical delivery arrived at my door. I felt, at once, excited and a bit silly as I tried all of the pieces on in front of my bedroom mirror in my mostly empty apartment. This dress was an immediate favourite. I had a plan for how I wanted to capture it in Paris, but all of that changed when my very talented photographer friend Anastasia told me about all of the spring blossoms near her home in Vincennes, a town on the edge of Paris. The promise of a giant magnolia tree was enough for me to know for sure that this dress was ready to have it’s moment. We had such a fun afternoon on this shoot – in addition to the magnolias, there was a sea of cherry blossoms and a beautiful peacock who eventually gave in and showed us his tail feathers. The whole thing felt a bit like a fairytale, but the resulting photos are even more dreamy than I could have imagined, and just confirm why Anastasia is my favourite Parisian photographer (but in case you aren’t convinced, or just feel like taking a walk down a lovely Parisian version of memory lane, you can see our past shoots here and here.) All of this is really to say, I suppose, that there is a little bit of magic everywhere, if you are open to it – from connecting with wonderful strangers on instagram to not holding too tightly to plans when something exciting comes along, life really is all about saying yes to new adventures.

These are exquisite C! Little did I know there were magnolias this big. The photoshoot itself is a work of art and the dress was the right acquisition, somethings are just meant to be.

  3. Oh my, the dress, the magnolia’s and the photos! Absolutely stunning Cee!! There’s nothing I love more than a beautiful dress… even if it’s just for an informal party at home & enjoying champagne sips! Which come to think of it I need to plan, ASAP!! 😉 And I can see why Anastasia is your favourite Parisian photographer, her past shoots with you are breathtaking!! xo

Fairytale seems like the right word to describe these photos, or downright magical. They might be my favorite photos ever. I had no idea magnolia could ever be that big, or that a gown could ever look so perfectly in place in a wooded setting. You have truly given me wanderlust, I would want nothing more than to be there. As someone who lives for the flowering trees in the spring, I’m dying over the beauty.
