When I think of Manhattan, I think of dressing in tulle skirts and carrying a quilted handbag. When I think of Brooklyn, I think of wearing trousers. There is something decidedly gritty about my favourite borough; it’s a place where things get done, without a lot of fuss or frills, and I like that about it. Brooklyn is a serious place, maybe a little too serious sometimes, but it’s also an honest place, which is always admirable in my estimation. I loved looking out the window of our hotel’s cafe over the brownstones every morning at breakfast. And of course, because my beloved white trousers from 8 rue Pomme are from New York, they were the perfect fit for my vision of Brooklyn style, particularly on our morning walks around the neighbourhood. I’m not quite ready to pack my bags and move to Brooklyn just yet, but I admit that the thought has crossed my mind.
Si je m’habille pour Manhattan, je mets une jupe en tulle et j’apporte un sac à main matélassé. Si je m’habille pour Brooklyn, je mets un pantalon. Mon quartier préféré à New York possède une qualité décidément brut; c’est un endroit où l’on accompli des tâches sans tapage, et c’est ça que j’en aime. Brooklyn est une ville sérieuse, parfois un peu trop sérieuse, mais elle est aussi honnête et sans prétention, des traits que j’estime beaucoup. Ça m’a fait plaisir de regarder les maisons de ville à travers la fenêtre du café dans notre hôtel pendant que je prenais mon petit déjeuner. Et mon pantalon en soie blanche bien aimé de la marque 8 rue Pomme, originaire de New York, incarnait parfaitement ma vision du style Brooklynais, surtout pour nos promenades dans le quartier. Je ne suis pas tout à fait prête à faire mes valises pour y déménager, mais l’idée m’est venue à l’esprit…
