Until recently, I hadn’t been to Calgary in ten years. My last visit was of the family road trip variety – mom, dad, Mike and me, all crowded in the car to attend the bat mitzvah of a family friend. To say that the whole experience left me less than enamored of the city is a gross understatement. If I am being honest, I will admit that Calgary is still not my favourite city, but I have a compelling reason to visit – her name is Steph, and we’ve known each other since we were thirteen. Plus, I’ve now discovered the wonder of the penguin plunge at the Calgary Zoo; it’s a little bit like walking onto the set of the movie Happy Feet and let me tell you, there is nothing more hilarious than watching a penguin spit on a zoo visitor (even if it’s you!) As it turns out, Calgary is also home to Vespucci, which is without a doubt one of the most impressive designer consignment stores I’ve ever seen. I left with a pair of mint-condition Miumiu flats and had to tear myself away from a stunning black Dior bag that looked like no one had ever carried it. There is no shortage of delicious restaurants in the city, either; the newly opened Suzette Bistro in particular. The fact is, I’ve always found that even in cities I don’t necessarily love, there are lots of things to enjoy.
Jusqu’à récemment, il faisait dix ans depuis mon dernier séjour à Calgary. Et ce dernier séjour fut un voyage en auto, en famille – maman, papa, Mike et moi ont pris la route afin d’assister à une bat mitzvah. Je ne peux surestime combien j’ai détesté la ville lors de ce voyage. Pour être honnête, je vous dis que Calgary reste une ville dont je ne suis pas hyper fan, mais j’ai une raison convaincante d’y voyager – elle s’appelle Steph, et nous sommes amies depuis nos treize ans. Et en plus, j’ai découvert le Penguin Plunge au Calgary Zoo; il ressemble un peu à une visite au plateau de tournage du film Happy Feet et je peux vous jurer qu’il n’y rien de plus marrant que de voir un pingouin qui crache sur les touristes (même si vous êtes parmi eux !) Il s’est avéré que l’une des meilleures dépôts ventes au Canada se trouve à Calgary, aussi – je suis sortie de Vespucci avec des ballerines Miumiu quasiment neuves et j’aurais bien voulu m’offrir un sublime sac Dior aussi. La prochaine fois, peut-être ! La ville ne manque pas de bonnes restaurants, non plus; la toute nouvelle Suzette Bistro m’a surtout plu. En fait, la vérité, c’est que même si nous n’adorons pas une ville, ceci n’est pas à dire que nous ne pouvons pas bien nous y amuser pendant une visite.
