My admiration for renowned pastry chef Philippe Conticini is no secret – I’ve written about his miraculous work with choux and pate feuillette more than once before, most recently here. I never miss a visit to his tea room when I’m in Paris, despite the fact that getting there used to be a long trek to the western 16eme arrondissement from my home in eastern Paris. Imagine my delight when I learned that La Patisserie des Reves had opened a new tea room in BHV, a department store in the centre of the city? It was the first place we had breakfast on our trip and my tarte au citron was so delicious that I never got a photograph of it – I was far too busy eating. The panoramic city views were the only thing that could distract me from inhaling my breakfast – although I will admit that the pink and yellow decor was not without its charm, either. Ian and I have a difference of opinion on this point – he feels very strongly that Yoshida Mori makes the best parties in Paris – but as far as I’m concerned, if you are forced to choose only one patisserie in the city to have a snack at, it has to be La Patisserie des Reves.

Je ne rate jamais la chance de visiter son salon de thé lors de mes séjours à Paris, malgré le fait qu’il faut assez longtemps en métro pour retrouver le 16eme arrondissement quand on habite à l’est de Paris. Imaginez donc comme ça m’a fait plaisir de découvrir le nouveau salon de thé La Pâtisserie des Rêves chez BHV, tout au centre de la ville. Nous y avons pris le petit déjeuner notre premier matin a la capitale et j’ai failli photographier ma tarte au citron – elle était tellement bonne que je l’ai toute mange avant même de réfléchir à la prendre en photo. La vue panoramique sur la ville m’a brièvement détourné de ma tarte, j’avoue – n’est-elle pas sublime ? Je trouve le décor jaune et rose assez charmant, aussi. Bien qu’Ian préfère les pâtisseries chez Yoshida Mori, selon moi, si vous devez choisir une seule pâtisserie à Paris où prendre un goûter, c’est surtout à La Pâtisserie des Rêves que vous trouverez votre bonheur.
