How to Stay Inspired

Just in case you got any ideas based on the title of this post, I’ll be up front: I have no idea how to stay inspired. I’m really great at beginnings; at getting wrapped up in the thrill of an exciting new project or story or photoshoot or… anything at all, honestly. Follow through, on the other hand? Not my strength. Earlier this year, when I was still on a high from the launch of my first book, work on my second was moving along more quickly than I had imagined it possibly could. So quickly, in fact, that I set a goal of finishing the book by May 2015. That’s right. The whole book. In less than a year. And then… oh, and then. One new job and two weddings later, I found myself in chapter eleven. I should say still in chapter eleven, because that’s exactly where I left off when I set my lofty goal of actually finishing something I started. But inspiration can sometimes come out of nowhere – I can offer that much wisdom, at least. A few motivational quotes from Pinterest – remembering why you’ve started something is essential if you want to finish it; I think I need to paste that quote to my forehead, because I so often lose track of why I’m working on a project when I’m in the middle of it that I just give up – and one lucky album discovery thanks for the Spotify viral chart and… if all goes well, I’ll be finishing chapter seventeen this week. How do you stay inspired when you’re working on something? It’s obvious I need help, so please, share your tips!

Pour que vous ne comprenez pas mal le titre de cet article, je vous dis franchement: je n’ai aucune idée comment maintenir son inspiration. J’excelle en débutant; à me lancer dans un nouveau projet ou histoire ou shooting… ou bien, n’importe quoi. Mener les choses à bien, d’un autre côté . J’en suis pas forte. Au printemps, quand j’étais toujours ravie d’avoir publié mon premier roman que j’écrivais très rapidement le deuxième – beaucoup plus rapidement que j’avais cru possible. Et je me suis dit que j’allais l’achever en mai 2015. Oui, c’est ça. Le roman entier. En moins d’un an. Mais, par la suite bon… par la suite j’ai pris un boulot bien plus contraignant, j’ai été demoiselle d’honneur deux fois et je me suis retrouvée au chapitre onze. C’est-à-dire toujours au chapitre onze, car c’est là où j’étais lorsque je me suis fixée le but de terminer ce que j’avais commencé. Mais parfois l’inspiration nous vient pratiquement de nulle part – je peux vous dire ça, au moins. Quelques citations de motivation grâce à Pinterest – je devrais tatouer, “rappelles-toi pourquoi tu as commencé,” sur mon front, tellement j’ai l’habitude d’oublier pourquoi un projet me passionne et donc l’abandonner au milieu – et la découverte d’un album que j’adore, et je me trouve, soudain, au chapitre dix-sept.
