Topshop shirtDo you ever wonder who googles you? It’s a strange question, but nonetheless a legitimate one. Even ten years ago, the passing thought, “I wonder what ever happened to…?” was just that – a passing thought. But now, thanks to the magic of the internet, we don’t have to wonder; all it takes is a few clicks to find out far more than you might ever need (or want) to know about someone, and experience the ensuing surprise or disappointment. (Because the truth is, I always imagine that people turned out to be beautiful and successful… and reality is harsh.) I’m a relatively private person and so, despite the fact that I have an account for pretty much every social media site there is, I do try to keep my digital footprint pretty well curated. Still, I can’t help but wonder what goes through someone’s mind when they stumble upon this blog… especially if this is how they remember me.
Vous vous demandez jamais qui vous cherche sur google ? C’est une question étrange, je sais, mais quand même valable. Il y a dix ans, si nous nous demandions, “qu‘est-ce qui a bien pu arriver à…?” on ne pouvait que nous demander. Mais aujourd’hui, grâce à l’internet, nous pouvons facilement trouver la réponse; il ne nous faut que quelques clics pour apprendre beaucoup plus que nous avons besoin (ou que nous voulons) savoir sur quelqu’un… et pour vivre la surprise ou la déception qui s’ensuit. (Oui, j’admets, j’imagine que tout le monde que je n’ai jamais connu est devenu beau et prospère… et la réalité diffère considérablement.) Je fais un effort afin d’assurer que ce qu’on voit de moi sur internet soit favorable, et pourtant je me demande souvent ce que les gens en pensent s’ils tombent sur mon blog… surtout si c’est comme ça qu’ils se rappellent de moi.
