I can’t think of Portobello Road without the song from Bedknobs and Broomsticks popping into my head – and playing on repeat for several days. We had to visit the famous street in Notting Hill during our trip to London, just to see the whimsical, colourfully-painted buildings. What we discovered, not surprisingly, is that Portobello Road itself is a long and, in places, slightly shabby, tourist trap… but if you turn right onto Denbigh Terrace, you’ll find all the pretty, brightly coloured houses your heart desires, with none of the distractions – peddlers, souvenir magnets and alleged antiques – of the adjacent road. It was a lovely place to stop on a Sunday morning stroll. When it comes to unusually painted streets, rue Cremieux will always have my heart, but it’s safe to say that Denbigh Terrace comes in a very close second.
I'm just admiring your chunky bracelet – a nice addition to your lovely outfit. I'm sure this is the same pretty terrace I came across earlier this year totally by chance. We always like to wander away from the main streets. I've always been drawn to coloured houses – they just look so individual.
I'm glad you found a little space in the area that wasn't a tourist trap – stumbling across those spaces is always such a perfect moment. And your perfectly dressed for a stroll in that area – you look very sophisticated.
I know London always seems so charming compared to NY though I guess not with just happened there. But it is a lovely city. And I loved that movie! And Chitty Chitty Bang Bang too!
Those painted homes are just so incredibly charming. I love that kind of whimsy in architecture – so lovely & unexpected! And I adore your dress, now that spring is here I'm keeping my eye out for pretty ones and yours is fantastic. Plus, there's nothing more perfect than a dress paired with booties. Absolutely one of my favourite looks lately! Happy weekend to you and Ian hope you guys have lots of lovely plans!! xo
I remember it, is a very nice and colorful street! You got a natural allure you know, I like the dress and is very well and classy matched!:) Kisses dear, have a great weekend! xo
it is hard not to love cute little houses in pretty colors all lined up. though its always a little disappointing to see when something is nothing more than a tourist trap. I just adore your cute polka dot dress! Chic on the Cheap
I adore the brightly painted houses on Portobello road Cee! Thanks for taking us there. It's beautiful. Also thanks for telling us what's behind-the-scenes. HAHAHa You looked beautiful! http://www.averysweetblog.com/
hehe, I like it how your black & white ensemble matches with the cool stairs. and the polka dot dress is especially cute. + those houses look really cute too, so close together but still cute because of the different cheerful colours. I'm glad my house is not that close to the neighbours' ones though 😛
J'adore ce quartier ! Et si tu dis que la rue Crémieux est encore plus jolie que les maisons colorées de Portobello, il faut absolument que je voie ça ! Ta robe est trop jolie ! Bisous
honey, i told you you look beautiful that day 🙂 i loved everything about this look! such a pretty dress and all goes so well together with your Sow White's complection :)the bag is gorgeous as well – i checked out it's beautiful detailing 🙂 i have to say that both times I've met you, I can't help but think you ooze Parisian chic! such a classic and elegant look. i like that you decided to wear your booties instead of heels it gives a bit of edginess to your outfit. The colorful street is such a wonderful backdrop for photo shoot. ♥ xoxo Ra
It's a shame when the reality doesn't live up to the fantasy, isn't it? I was downright surprised to see the words 'shabby' and 'tourist trap' in the post. On the other hand, this row of houses is a feast for the eyes! BTW, I love your boots.
Lovely pictures and the polka dots white dress looks great on you! When I used to go in that area, I always paid a visit to Aime, a delightful boutique full of French labels (http://www.aimelondon.com). Of course you live in Paris, so you are surrounded by local stores, but I'm sure you would have loved Aime! Caterina
